Ezrach Man Is Born At Passover

Only two kinds of men are allowed to appear before YaHuWaH at Passover. They are called the Ger and the Ezrach and together they make up all of YaHuWaH’s Kingdom.

And YaHuWaH said to Moses and Aaron, “This is the ordinance of the Passover: No foreigner shall eat it.  But every man’s servant who is bought for money, when you have circumcised him, then he may eat it.  A sojourner and a hired servant shall not eat it.  In one house it shall be eaten; you shall not carry any of the flesh outside the house, nor shall you break one of its bones.  All the congregation of Yisra’El shall keep it.  And when a stranger dwells with you and wants to keep the Passover to YaHuWaH, let all his males be circumcised, and then let him come near and keep it; and he shall be as a native of the land. For no uncircumcised person shall eat it. (Exo 12:43-48)

·         Foreigner H5236 (alien, “ben nekar”)

·         Sojourner H8453 (involved alien, “Toshab”)

·         Stranger H1616 (citizen, “Ger”)

·         Native of the land H249 (citizen, “Ezrach”)

YaHuWaH divides these four individuals into two distinct groups; the first group are citizens of some kingdom of men and serve some other elohim (lawmakers and judges) besides YaHuWaH; and the second group are all citizens of True Yisra’El. These two groups are divided by verse 47 which says.

All the congregation of Yisra’El shall keep it [it, being the “ordinance of the Passover”]! (Exo 12:47)

The following two groups constitute “all the congregation of Yisra’El.

Stranger (citizen, “Ger”)

H1616    גר     ger
A masculine noun meaning sojourner, alien, stranger. The word indicates, in general, anyone who is not native to a given land or among a given people but has joined himself to such land and people.

The Ger or Stranger has joined himself to the commonwealth of True Yisra’El through repentance and then naturalization. Baptism, a tradition of the Jews, was a public declaration expressing an inward change of repentance and a commitment to follow all the ways of YaHuWaH given through Moses through the Red Sea and beyond.

Baptism is not about a man (eesh) getting wet, it is about “crossing over.” It is both an expatriation from the government of one’s birth and a naturalization process into a new government; he is joining himself to a group of people who have made the same declaration (i.e. True Yisra’El).

  • The Ger has no citizenship in any other kingdom
  • He is a citizen of True Yisra’El and keeps their laws, no matter where he is at.
  • He dwells on the earth as in a strange country

You shall have the same law for the Stranger [Ger] and for one from your own country [Ezrach]; for I am YaHuWaH your Elohim. (Lev 24:22)

One law shall be for the native-born [Ezrach] and for the Stranger [Ger] who dwells among you. (Exo 12:49)

And if a stranger [Ger] dwells with you [the Ezrach], or whoever is among you throughout your generations, and would present an offering made by fire, a sweet aroma to YaHuWaH, just as you do, so shall he do. One ordinance shall be for you of the assembly and for the Stranger [Ger] who dwells with you, an ordinance forever throughout your generations; as you are, so shall the Stranger [Ger] be before YaHuWaH. (Num 15:14-15)

Concerning the Ger, YaHuWaH says,

And when a Stranger [Ger] shall sojourn with thee [the Ezrach], and will keep the Passover to YaHuWaH, let all his males be circumcised, and then let him come near and keep it …  (Exo 12:48)

Native-Born Citizen (“Ezrach”)

H249   אזרח   ezrach
A masculine noun indicating a native-born person of a land as opposed to a Stranger [Ger] or Settler [Toshab]. These persons had full rights to take part in Yisrael’s rites and festivals.

Another great definition!

H249   אזרח   ezrach
A spontaneous growth, … From H2224 (in the sense of springing up) (Strong)

H2224  זרח  zarach  zaw-rakh
A primitive root; properly to irradiate (or shoot forth beams), that is, to rise (as the sun); specifically to appear: – arise, rise (up), as soon as it is up. (Strong)

Each new Ezrach is born just after sunset, in a moment, and this happens all over the earth each Passover. They are recreated and formed into His Kind once again.

And when a Stranger [Ger] shall sojourn with thee [the Ezrach], and will keep the Passover to YaHuWaH, let all his males be circumcised, and then let him come near and keep it; and become as one that is born in the land [the Ezrach]: for no uncircumcised person shall eat thereof. (Exo 12:48)

This spontaneous growth, this springing forth of life is the Born Again (Born from Above) experience that Yahusha spoke of! The man came to Passover as a Ger and left as an Ezrach, a new man, in covenant for the first time, with YaHuWaH.

Those who experience this second birth, are born again (born from above) into a new country and have become as one born in the land, the promised seed.

  • He has entered into covenant by the shedding of his own blood (through circumcision) and the blood of the animal that seals the covenant for the next year, just as Abraham did.
  • He is the one who is spiritually, “Born Again” (born from above)
  • He is born into a spiritual country –  YaHuWaH’s eternal kingdom
  • He is a citizen, son and heir of  YaHuWaH, the spiritual seed which was promised by YaHuWaH to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob

Every man who ate of the Passover lamb before he left Egypt, became as one born of the land (the Ezrach) of Yisra’El, even though most of them had never even seen Yisra’El before that time. That is true of us also; whether we are the biological sons of Abraham or not. And whether we have seen the land or not. It does not matter! The Ger, not the Ben Nekar or the Toshab, who is circumcised (sheds his blood) and eats the Passover becomes an Ezrach (as one born in the land or native-born).

At the Passover which Yahusha attended, as recorded by John; Yahusha spoke with Nicodemus saying, “You must be born again (born from above) to see the Kingdom of Elohim.” He said, “That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again (born from above).’”

Remember, Yahusha rebuked Nicodemus saying, “Are you the teacher of Yisra’El, and do not know these things?” Is it possible that being circumcised and eating of the Passover lamb is exactly what Yahusha was speaking of when he said we must be born a second time? A spiritual birth (through an act of obedience at the appointed time) into a spiritual kingdom.

In Numbers YaHuWaH speaking of the man, whether Ger or Ezrach, who does not eat the Passover. It says that he shall be kicked out from among his people and his sins shall remain on him. Check it out, we have learned so many lies!

“Let Yisrael’s seed keep the Passover at its appointed time. On the fourteenth day of this month, at twilight, you shall keep it at its appointed time. According to all its rites and ceremonies you shall keep it.” (Num 9:2-3)

The sons/seed have two chances to keep the Passover according to its ordinances, but look at what happens to the man that will not keep it.

On the fourteenth day of the second month, at twilight, they shall keep it. They shall eat it with unleavened bread and bitter herbs. They shall leave none of it until morning, nor break one of its bones. According to all the ordinances of the Passover they shall keep it. But the man [ha eesh] who is clean and is not on a journey, and ceases to keep the Passover, that man shall be cut off from among his people, because he did not bring the offering of YaHuWaH at its appointed time; that man shall bear his sin. (Num 9:11-13)

So does it make sense that “the man” who does keep it shall be allowed to continue to dwell among YaHuWaH’s people and his sins shall be forgiven him? The Passover offering is the only thing that a Ger or an Ezrach can bring to YaHuWaH which provides for forgiveness of sins, and a renewed commitment to follow in His covenant for yet another year.

The man who eats the Passover each year has his sins forgiven him and becomes as one born in the land, a son of Elohim. The status that the man, the head of his household, enjoys is the same status that his woman (bone of his bone and flesh of his flesh) and his flesh sons and daughters who are following him.

Exo 12:43-48 describes 4 kinds of people with respect to the True Nation of Yisra’El; and also describes the process in which a man (an eesh) may become as one born in the land, an Ezrach!.

Born Again (Born from Above) Process

The four individuals with respect to YaHuWaH’s “Born in the Land” also describes the born again (born from above) process, the 4 progressive stages that every man must go through in becoming a “born in the land” son and heir of YaHuWaH’s kingdom. Here again are the four types of men which I have described.

Born Again (Born from Above) Process And Exodus 12:43-48

  1. Foreigner (alien to true Yisra’El, “ben nekar”)
  2. Sojourner (involved alien with true Yisra’El, “Toshab”)
  3. Stranger (citizen of true Yisra’El, “Ger”)
  4. Native in the land (citizen of true Yisra’El, “Ezrach”)

Born Again (Born from Above) Process Begins with the Ben Nekar (son of a foreigner)
We (men) all start by being born into some kingdom of the world, a ben nekar, the son of a foreigner. As a ben nekar we do not know anyone from true Yisra’El, nor any of their ways.

The Toshab Is The Next Step In The Born Again Process
At some point along our life journey YaHuWaH sees to it that we find some truth, or more frequently meet someone who is true Yisra’El (a Ger or an Ezrach) and begin to see the light of the creator through their righteous deeds.

The Born Again (Born from Above) Process Continues With A Man Becoming A Ger
If we choose to embrace the light through repentance and turn to all the Creator’s ways (this is the circumcision of the heart), by beginning to learn and do them, we become a Ger.  We leave the kingdom and the elohim of our birth and join ourselves to YaHuWaH and His set-apart people, those who have done the same; and now serve only one lawmaker and judge, YaHuWaH, the Elohim on the mountain.

Becoming An Ezrach Is The Final Step In The Born Again (Born from Above) Process
Once each year the Ger has the opportunity to become as “one born in the land,” an Ezrach, by being circumcised (this time in the flesh along with all the males of his household) and then eating of the Passover.

And when a stranger [Ger] dwells with thee [the Ezrach] and wants to keep the Passover to YaHuWaH, let all his males be circumcised, and then let him come near and keep it; AND BECOME AS A NATIVE OF THE LAND [an Ezrach]. For no uncircumcised person shall eat it.” (Exo 12:48)

Some Examples Of The Born Again Process

Now that we better understand the born again process let look at some examples of people moving through it.

Ittai the Gittite

Then the king [David] said to Ittai the Gittite, “Why are you also going with us? Return and remain with the king. For you are a foreigner (ben nekar) and an exile from your own place. In fact, you came only yesterday. … Return, and take your brethren back. Mercy and truth be with you.” But Ittai answered the king and said, “As YaHuWaH lives, and as my master the king lives, surely in whatever place my master the king shall be, whether in death or life, even there also your servant will be.” So David said to Ittai, “Go, and cross over.” Then Ittai the Gittite and all his men and all the little ones who were with him crossed over. (2 Sam 15:19-22)

Ittai (and those men, women and children) moved from a foreigner (ben nekar) status to a Sojourner (Toshab) status by virtue of his confession and maybe even to that of a Stranger (Ger) by virtue of their “crossing over.” I think the latter.

Ruth

But Ruth said: “Entreat me not to leave you, or to turn back from following after you; for wherever you go, I will go; and wherever you lodge, I will lodge; your people shall be my people, and your Elohim, my Elohim. (Ruth 1:16)

So she fell on her face, bowed down to the ground, and said to him [Boaz], “Why have I found favor in your eyes, that you should take notice of me, since I am a foreigner (a nokree, a foreign woman)?” And Boaz answered and said to her, “It has been fully reported to me, all that you have done for your mother-in-law since the death of your husband, and how you have left your father and your mother and the land of your birth, and have come to a people whom you did not know before. YaHuWaH repay your work, and a full reward be given you by YaHuWaH, Elohim of Yisra’El, under whose wings you have come for refuge.” (Ruth 2:10-12)

Ruth moved from a foreign (nokree) woman status to that of a sojourner (Toshab, at least in character – there are no female toshab) by virtue of her relationship to Naomi; and then became a Stranger (Ger and citizen of Yisra’El, again, in character) by the circumcision of her heart which was demonstrated through her confession and subsequent actions.

Incidentally, Ruth later became a daughter of YaHuWaH through her marriage to the Ezrach and son of Yisra’El, Boaz. A man of Yisra’El is only allowed to marry a woman of Yisra’El so the fact that it had been “fully reported” to him how Ruth had left her father and her mother and the land of her birth, and had come to a people whom she did not know before was very important.

The eunuch and the ben nekar

Thus says YaHuWaH: “Keep justice, and do righteousness, for My salvation is about to come, and My righteousness to be revealed. Blessed is the man who does this, and the son of man who lays hold on it; who keeps from defiling the Sabbath, and keeps his hand from doing any evil.” Do not let the son of the Foreigner (Ben Nekar) who has joined himself to YaHuWaH speak, saying, “YaHuWaH has utterly separated me from His people”; nor let the eunuch say, “Here I am, a dry tree.” For thus says YaHuWaH “to the eunuchs who keep My Sabbaths, and choose what pleases Me, and hold fast My covenant, even to them I will give in My house and within My walls a place and a name better than that of sons and daughters; I will give them an everlasting name that shall not be cut off. “Also the sons of the foreigner (Ben Nekar) who join themselves to YaHuWaH, to serve Him, and to love the name of YaHuWaH, to be His servants — everyone who keeps from defiling the Sabbath, and holds fast My covenant even them I will bring to My set-apart mountain, and make them joyful in My house of prayer. Their burnt offerings and their sacrifices will be accepted on My altar; for My house shall be called a house of prayer for all nations.“  Isa 56:1-8

The “son of the foreigner” (Ben Nekar) and the eunuchs who joined themselves to YaHuWaH, they were naturalized into True Yisra’El, and both moved from a status of a foreigner to that of a Stranger (a Ger).

Moses

And she bore him a son. He called his name Gershom, for he said, “I have been a stranger (Ger) in a foreign (nokree, foreign) land.” Exo 2:22

Moses was a stranger (Ger) when he came back to Egypt by virtue of his own confession. And as one born in the land (Ezrach) when he left Egypt by virtue of his partaking in the Passover lamb. He, and many others, became “born in the land” just before they left Egypt; and hardly any of them had ever even seen the land.

We, True born in the land men (Ezrach), Yisra’El, were all strangers (Gerim) at one time. YaHuWaH, speaking with Yisra’El, says:

“Thou [born in the land, Yisra’El] shall neither mistreat a stranger (Ger) nor oppress him, for you were strangers (Gerim) in the land of Egypt. Exo 22:21

Everyone who has been born into True Yisra’El was once a Stranger (a Ger) in their Egypt, since we cannot become native-born, Ezrach, without being a Ger first!

Let us now consider our own lives in relation to this Born Again (Born from Above) Process. Where are we in this journey? We (men) all start being citizens of a foreign land, a ben nekar. Have we begun our move in this born again process towards becoming as one born in the land?

So, where does the man who simply confesses Yahusha as Master stand?

  • Has he repented and committed himself to keeping all of YaHuWaH’ s commandments, no matter where he is at?
  • Does he still maintain his citizenship in another kingdom?
  • Does he have anything more than a superficial relationship with True Yisra’El?
  • Does he even know anyone who is True Yisra’El, a Ger or an Ezrach?

Since we cannot become True Yisra’El without becoming a Ger first; let us repent today and commit to becoming a Stranger (a Ger) in a foreign (nokree, foreign) land. Yahusha said, “The kingdom of Heaven is at hand.

Now after John was put in prison, Yahusha came to Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of YaHuWaH, and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of YaHuWaH is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.” (Mar 1:14-15)

The Born Again (Born from Above) Process

  • We all begin in our Egypt as a Foreigner, a Ben Nekar and a citizen of another kingdom.
  • YaHuWaH will see to it that everyone becomes a sojourner (Toshab) by sending His light of truth in the world; usually by meeting someone from True Yisra’El. Most men will reject that small piece of light, but others will rejoice and begin searching for more.
  • The sojourner (Toshab) who repents and leaves the kingdom of his birth will become a Stranger (Ger) and be immersed into True Yisra’El and follow only YaHuWaH and His eternal and unchanging ways. He will become a subject citizen of the kingdom of True Yisra’El, no matter what kingdom he was previously a citizen of.

Human aspiration must rise higher than the elimination of the negative; it must strive for positive achievement.  One is not complete until one has come to the resting place of YaHuWaH’s presence with the offering that represents a covering for the past and a dedication for the future.

That is what Passover is all about; a yearly renewal of our covenant with YaHuWaH.

Yahusha said, “You must be born again! (Born from Above)

  • One time every year a Stranger (Ger) has the opportunity to become as one born in the land (Ezrach). He can become a son and heir of True Yisra’El by getting circumcised and keeping the Passover, the Time Of Life, as codified in Exodus 12.

We must all ask ourselves “Where am I in this born again (born from above) process?” Remember, Yahusha said, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again (born from above), he cannot see the kingdom of Elohim.” (John 3:3)

Is it possible that the Way of Life is far narrower than most have ever imagined? Yahusha was not talking to the Gentiles when he said “straight is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leads to life, and few there be who find it;” he was talking to the people who thought they were YaHuWaH’s people already.

Let’s renew our commitment today to learn, do and teach only YaHuWaH’s ways; for if we will, we can be great in YaHuWaH’s kingdom. I want to be great in YaHuWaH’s kingdom and I want that for you also!

For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the Torah until all is fulfilled. Whoever therefore breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. (Mat 5:18-19)
