Head Coverings are Not Cloth, They’re Flesh!
This article is not directed at one particular person or group of people. It is just what we have studied for ourselves. We have always felt that we all bend our knee to the Master in the way that we see fit according to scripture. We have many friends who do wear head coverings whom we love dearly and we pray that this information is received in love.
Right now men and women alike are leaving some of the more overt doctrines and traditions of men which we have learned in our “Christian” and “Jewish” upbringings; but there is much that we have learned which we still accept as truth, things that do not promote YaHuWaH’s image and ways in the earth. Our understandings, really lack of understandings, concerning head coverings are some of the most egregious of them all; and because of these lies women especially have a false sense of security.
There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death. Mishle/Proverbs 14:12
Oh my, “way of death” is right!
YaHuWaH’s men and women each have their own specific duties and responsibilities which we must adhere to if we are to be YaHuWaH’s light in the world. Unfortunately, those who simply only say they are His but do not conform their lives to His created purpose for them will receive even greater judgment.
Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; who put darkness for light, and light for darkness; who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight! … Because they have rejected the law of YaHuWaH of hosts, and despised the word of the Set-Apart One of Yisra’El. Yeshayahu/Isaiah 5:20-21, 24
Anyone who has disregarded the Torah of Mosheh dies without compassion on the witness of two or three witnesses. How much worse punishment do you think shall he deserve who has trampled the Son of Elohim underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant by which he was set apart as common, and insulted the Spirit of favour? Ibrim/Hebrews 10:28-29
The priests of YaHuWaH were instructed to teach the difference between Set-Apart and profane and between tahor (clean) and tamei (unclean).
“so as to make a distinction between the set-apart and the profane, and between the unclean and the clean, and to teach the children of Yisra’ĕl all the laws which יהוה has spoken to them by the hand of Mosheh.” Wayyiqra/Leviticus 10:10-11
Translating tahor and tamei as “clean” and “unclean” hardly does these words justice. A woman that separates herself from her husband and others during her menses is living in the realm of tahor; that which is acceptable and useful in producing YaHuWaH’s image and ways on the earth for all to see. Those who don’t separate themselves are walking in the realm of tamei; and thus distorting YaHuWaH’s image and ways in the world.
All this said, there are many ideas from the Brit Chadashah commentaries which we have accepted as true and begun to walk in that are not consistent with the very words that Yahusha, Paul, Peter, James, John and Jude all supposedly taught from; these are the words given to us through Mosheh and YaHuWaH’s other Prophets.
When did we stop being good Bereans who listen to what Paul, or anyone, has to say and not searched the word for ourselves?
“And the brothers immediately sent Sha’ul and Silas away by night to Beroia, who, having come, went into the congregation of the Yehuḏim. Now these were more noble than those in Thessalonike, who received the word with great eagerness, and searched the Scriptures daily, if these words were so.” Ma`asei/Acts 17:10-11
“To the Torah and to the witness! If they do not speak according to this Word, it is because they have no daybreak.” Yeshayahu/Isaiah 8:20
There Are No Head Coverings In Torah
Where are the cloth head coverings in Torah, or the Prophets for that matter? Folks, they are not there! We have built yet another doctrine of men that is in the realm of tamei; not acceptable or useful for presenting YaHuWaH’s image on the earth. In fact, it may be worse to wear a cloth head covering if it makes other women believe that by wearing it they are somehow more “righteous.” Ha – a “righteous woman“, there is an oxymoron that you will never find in Torah; but that is a story for another day.
Head Coverings Are Men!
The head coverings that women need in Torah is their man! A woman’s place of safety is under her man’s covering.
Cloth Head Coverings Do Not Make A Woman Acceptable Before The Creator
Oh, it is a lot easier for a woman to leave her man, put a piece of cloth on her head and believe she is somehow following YaHuWaH, instead of humbling herself and learning to follow only her man. Again, these cloth head coverings are not in line with His eternal and unchanging ways. These false images that so many have adopted, come from 1 Corinthians 11 which starts out by saying,
“And I wish you to know that the head of every man is the Messiah, and the head of woman is the man, and the head of Messiah is Elohim. Every man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, brings shame to his Head. And every woman praying or prophesying with her head uncovered brings shame to her head, for that is one and the same as if her head were shaved. For if a woman is not covered, let her also be shorn. But if it is a shame for a woman to be shorn or shaved, let her be covered.” Qorintiyim Aleph/1 Corinthians 11:3-6
This commentary is not about head coverings, it is about who we serve. Most translators and teachers want to make this all about cloth and ignore what Mosheh actually said; it is much easier to collect money if they do.
But I say what YaHuWaH says,
“Woe to the shepherds destroying and scattering the sheep of My pasture!” declares יהוה. Therefore thus said יהוה Elohim of Yisra’ĕl against the shepherds who feed My people, “You have scattered My flock, driven them away, and have not tended them. See, I am punishing you for the evil of your deeds,” declares יהוה.” Yirmeyahu/Jeremiah 23:1-2
YaHuWaH’s desires that there be no uncovered women running around in His kingdom. This is why he commands Yisra’El, his Ezrach men, to care for their widows and fatherless. Even the captives and maid-servants have a master, an adon.
I did however find one reference to a woman having her head shaved and it adds some very interesting information to this discussion.
“When you go out to fight against your enemies, and יהוה your Elohim shall give them into your hand, and you shall take them captive,” and shall see among the captives a woman fair of form, and shall delight in her and take her for your wife, then you shall bring her home to your house, and she shall shave her head and trim her nails, and put aside the mantle of her captivity, and shall dwell in your house, and mourn her father and her mother a month of days. And after that you shall go in to her and be her husband, and she shall be your wife. “And it shall be, if you are not pleased with her, then you shall let her go at her desire, but you do not sell her at all for silver. Do not treat her harshly, since you have humbled her.” Deḇarim/Deuteronomy 21:10-14
This woman is having her head shaved because she now has no covering. Her father and mother are gone. I am guessing she is a virgin as well. Now she is alone and uncovered; the shaving of her head is a physical reminder of her spiritual condition. She has 30 days to adjust to this new man becoming her master. If she rebels, she faces a very uncertain future.
Getting put out of this man’s household with her hair having grown for just a single month is a sign saying “Uncovered Woman!” which will now make her prey to all of the undesirable and wicked men in the land. I would venture that slavery or whoredom is in her probable future since she has no money. What good man is going to want a woman that another man found unacceptable?
The covering for a man of the Elohim of heaven and earth is to obey only Him! If a man is subject to any other elohim (law makers and judges) he has his head covered by someone besides YaHuWaH. Most of us (men) have done this voluntarily by following the broad road and doing what everyone else does. Men, unless they are slaves, are to serve only YaHuWaH, the Elohim of Yisra’El.
This is what Paul is talking about when he says,
“Every man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, brings shame to his Head.” Qorintiyim Aleph/1 Corinthians 11:4
YaHuWaH’s 1st commandment to Yisra’El’s seed was, “You have no other mighty ones against My face.” Shemoth/Exodus 20:3
This time Paul had it right in light of Torah!
When a man learns to lay down his life in service to YaHuWaH, the king of Yisra’El, he is doing righteousness and is properly covered by Him. And, when a woman learns to lay down her life in service to her man, she becomes a woman of worth and also has a proper head covering.
A woman with her head shaved, or a woman who should have her head shaved because she has no man to serve, is a sign to the world that she is uncovered and out of sync with YaHuWaH’s created purpose for her; this is not honorable or fashionable, it’s a travesty. All women are meant to have head coverings.
