Mishpat

You have a mighty arm, Your hand is strong, Your right hand exalted. Righteousness and right-ruling (mishpat) are the foundation of Your throne; Loving-commitment and truth go before Your face. Blessed are the people Who know the sounding! They walk, O יהוה, in the light of Your face. In Your Name they rejoice all day long, And they are exalted in Your righteousness. For You are the comeliness of their strength, And by Your good pleasure our horn is exalted. For יהוה is our shield, And the Set-apart One of Yisra’ĕl is our Sovereign. Tehillim (Psalms) 89:13-18

The word ‘right-ruling’ that is used in Hebrew is Mishpat.

Part of Speech: noun masculine

Mishpat translated “ordinance,” literally means “judgment.” In other words, these are יהוה‘s assessments—his judgments in terms of how relationships within the Torah community are to be lived out. We are faced, therefore, with a clear and simple decision: will we accept יהוה‘s assessments regarding proper relationships, or will we set them aside for our own? Will we trust His way or lean upon our own understanding?

Leaders Appointed

Abba commanded the children of Yisra’El to appoint leaders, men wise and understanding, over the 12 tribes so that it would not be too heavy a burden on Mosheh when judging matters.

Deu 1:9 “And I spoke to you at that time, saying, ‘I am unable to bear you by myself.

Deu 1:10 ‘יהוה your Elohim has increased you, and see, you are today as numerous as the stars of the heavens.

Deu 1:11 ‘יהוה Elohim of your fathers is going to add to you a thousand times more than you are, and bless you as He has spoken to you!

Deu 1:12 ‘How do I bear your pressure and your burden and your strife, by myself?

Deu 1:13 ‘Choose men, wise and understanding, and known to your tribes, and let me appoint them as your heads.’

Deu 1:14 “And you answered me and said, ‘The word which you have spoken to us to do is good.’

Deu 1:15 “And I took the heads of your tribes, wise men and known, and made them heads over you, leaders of thousands, and leaders of hundreds, and leaders of fifties, and leaders of tens, and officers for your tribes.

Deu 1:16 “And I commanded your judges at that time, saying, ‘When hearing between your brothers, judge righteously between a man and his brother or the stranger who is with him.

Deu 1:17 ‘Do not show partiality in right-ruling, hear the small as well as the great. Do not be afraid of anyone’s face, for the right-ruling belongs to Elohim. And the case which is too hard for you, bring it to me, and I shall hear it.’

Deu 1:18 “And I commanded you at that time all the words which you should do.”

Do we judge according to Abba’s standards? Abba’s not telling us not to judge. Abba says the way you judge is what will be measured back to you, pressed down and shaken together and running over shall be put into your lap. When we judge wrongly we bring unbalanced scales for either party, whether they are right or wrong.

Abba Hates Unbalanced Scales

Pro 11:1 A false scale is an abomination to יהוה, But a perfect weight is His delight.

Pro 11:2 Pride comes, then comes shame; But with the humble is wisdom.

Pro 11:3 The integrity of the straight ones guides them, But the slipperiness of the treacherous destroys them.

Pro 20:7 The righteous man walks in his integrity; His children are blessed after him.

Pro 20:8 A sovereign who sits on the throne of judgment Is scattering all evil with his eyes.

Pro 20:9 Who says, “I have cleansed my heart, I am purged of my sin”?

Pro 20:10 Differing weights and differing measures, Both of them are an abomination to יהוה.

Pro 20:11 Even a child is known by his deeds, Whether his work is clear and right.

Deu 1:18 “And I commanded you at that time all the words which you should do.

Luk 6:36 “Therefore be compassionate, as your Father also is compassionate.

Luk 6:37 “And do not judge, and you shall not be judged at all. Condemn not, and you shall not be condemned at all. Forgive, and you shall be forgiven.

Luk 6:38 “Give, and it shall be given to you. A good measure, pressed down and shaken together and running over shall be put into your lap. For with the same measure with which you measure, it shall be measured back to you.”

The root line of Mishpat is פָּט and literal means a stale mate, balanced scales!

When we judge righteously according to Abba’s Torah it brings balanced scales of judgment to all parties according to Abba’s kingdom dynamics! These are the house rules of יהוה and He expects us to use them and live by them to bring righteousness upon the earth!

For us to judge righteously we have to do it according to Abba’s Word and our heart needs to be in the right place to do so.

Amos 5:24 But let judgment H4941 run down as waters, and righteousness as a mighty stream.
