To Moon or not to Moon Part 6

YaHuWaH’s Month in non-Torah Scriptures.

Our question:

Oh <chodesh> H2320! Will the H2320 ‘new moon’ verses align with Moses and the Torah?

TIME! … most people overlook it. However, it is one of the first things YaHuWaH established. All His creation works with time: years, seasons, months, weeks, and days! And it is even truer when it comes to humanity. The one who controls time controls the world (see Isaiah 14:13-14).

That is why, throughout history, men wanted to redefine time according to their terms, being at the origin of many liturgical calendars, modifying the Sabbath, and the set-apart gatherings.

They have counterfeited the prophecies, thus blurring the reading of the events of the end times, erasing the landmarks left by a Creator full of love for His creation.

It is important to start asking the right questions, to review the basics, and ignore religious traditions and pagan influences in order to reveal the Divine Eternal Calendar.

Some of these questions could be:

  1. How to synchronize on YaHuWaH’s time?
  2. Should the starts, the sun, and the moon be taken into account in the formation of the Eternal Calendar?
  • What event determines the beginning of the day?
  1. Are the months really based on lunar cycles?
  2. What is the role of the vernal equinox?
  3. Do the constellations have something to teach us?

About ‘discerning the time…’

Who really took away the Keys to YaHuWaH’s Eternal Calendar?

Yisra’El? Galilee? Samaria? Judah? Translators? Hebrew Lexicon writers?

Hypocrites! You know to discern the face of the heaven and of the earth, but how is it you do not discern this time?” Luqas (Luke) 12:56

The KEYS of secular historical quotes are also being restored. These quotes assist in understanding the truth as it is in the Torah.

Moon worship was dominant in the Mesopotamian world from which the patriarchs emerged, around 1800 BCE, with Abraham the key Scripture figure.

At that time and in succeeding centuries, moon worship in Mesopotamia centered on a large pantheon of assorted gods whose images proliferated in the temples.

Myths die hard, and the Bible is full of graphic detail showing how the ancient Hebrews slipped readily from time to time into celebrations that bore the mark of the original pagan practices.

Moon Worship – WF Albright also writes:

Ur was a major center of moon god worship with a famous temple, the ruins of which are still visible today. Historical records do in fact indicate that in ancient times the two major centers of the pagan moon god were at Haran and Ur of Chaldees. The family of Abram [and Terah, his father] originally worshipped the moon god in their pagan state before Elohim revealed Himself to them. (The Role of Canaanites in the History of Civilizations, page 333.)

What have we learned so far about H2320/H2318?

H2320 <chodesh> (noun) [primitive root]

H2318 <chadash> (verb)

Creation’s Proper Placement of Definitions

Both ‘new moons’ renew and rebuild when their 30th day ends.

Keys to Understanding the <chodesh> study.

  1. Properly understand the H2320 <chodesh> definition.
  2. Discernment when Lexicon definitions do not align with the Torah.
  3. Careful consideration of content and context with the Torah.
  4. Plan to study the ‘new moon’ Scriptures in order of date.
  5. Any ancient/secular history must align with the Torah.

For Consideration:

  1. Whenever the word ‘chodesh’ is translated as ‘moon’ (instead of month) it is a gross mistranslation!
  2. Satan has used this gross error to mislead Judaism and Christianity with regards to the Truth about YaHuWaH’s calendar and the beginning of His month.
  3. Satan has led people to wrongly focus on the various phases of the moon to determine YaHuWaH’s months and His Feast days!
  4. Because of wrong preconceived ideas based on an allegiance to false religion, physical and spiritual Jews today use a calendar based on pagan premises!
  5. As a result, people are trying to keep YaHuWaH’s Feast days according to pagan reckoning.
  6. By inserting the word ‘moon’ for the translation of the word ‘chodesh’, Satan has deviously focused the attention onto the moon to calculate the months!

This has led to the calendar being built on a false premise!

Counsel from Moses 1450 BC

Moses gave YaHuWaH’s inspired and explicit commands about the type of year His people were to live their lives by.

  • For about 400 years after Moses, the people were led by prophets and judges.
  • Prophets taught and judges counseled until the people clamored for a king.
  • Moses gave instructions for all future kings, including worship statutes regarding YaHuWaH’s calendar.
  • Did these instructions include the ‘new moon’ as the marker for the ‘new month’?

Torah Instructions For Leaders in Deut 17

Every ‘king’ of YaHuWaH’s people were to make a copy of Torah, read it, govern/judge by it – never departing from its Words.

14 “When you come to the land which יהוה your Elohim is giving you, and shall possess it and shall dwell in it, and you shall say, ‘Let me set a sovereign over me like all the nations that are around me,’ ”

15 you shall certainly set a sovereign over you whom יהוה your Elohim shall choose. Set a sovereign over you from among your brothers, you are not allowed to set a foreigner over you, who is not your brother.

18“And it shall be, when he sits on the throne of his reign, that he shall write for himself a copy of this Torah in a book, from the one before the priests, the Lĕwites.

19 And it [Torah] shall be with him, and he shall read it all the days of his life, so that he learns to fear יהוה his Elohim and guard all the Words of this Torah and these laws, to do them,”

20 so that his heart is not lifted up above his brothers, and so as not to turn aside from the command, right or left, so that he prolongs his days in his reign, he and his children, in the midst of Yisra’ĕl.”

20 Non-Torah Controversial Verses

In this section, we are going to address the 20 controversial verses from non-Torah Tanakh books that promote the ‘new moon’…

  1. As the commencement of the Biblical month
  2. As being affiliated with the weekly Sabbath and annual festivals

We will examine approximately 1000 years of history for these non-Torah verses in accordance with the leadership of:

  1. 4 Kings (Saul, Dawid, Solomon, and Hezekiah)
  2. 5 Prophets (Elisha, Amos, Hosea, Isaiah, and Ezekiel)
  3. 3 Prominent Leaders (Zerubbabel, Ezra, and Nehemiah)

Moses gave specific instructions in Deut 17 to all future kings, prophets, and leaders for every worship statute on YaHuWaH’s calendar.

Did these leaders teach according to the ‘Laws of Moses’?

In the complete study, we will investigate 12 Great Leaders around the 20 ‘new moon’ verses to see if they taught from the Torah or other books!

An Important Question:

Would/Could 12 Great Leaders ALL make the same mistake of teaching the ‘new moon’ to be given the ‘new month’?

Please note that all dates are approximates and do pay attention to the date of each verse and how many years have passed from the death of Moses. That is important.

1062 BC Preparations for 1 Samuel 20

All Leaders, including Saul, are to follow the Commands in the Torah as given by Moses.

  1. Every king must carefully study the law of YaHuWaH;
  2. Make that his rule;
  3. Have a copy of the Scriptures in his own writing;
  4. Must read it all the days of his life.

The following 3 Scriptures in 1st Samuel revolve around one event.

  • Dawid is expected to be present at the King’s table.
  • Dawid’s life is in danger.
  • He tells Jonathan he chooses not to attend for 3 days.
  • If King Saul is leading according to the Torah, would the first day of the new month be on the ‘new moon’ day?

1062 BC King Saul (with Jonathan and Dawid)

  • “And Dawiḏ said to Yehonathan, “See, tomorrow is the new moon month [H2320 <chodesh>], and I ought to sit with the sovereign to eat. But let me go, and I shall hide in the field until the third day at evening.” Shemu’ĕl Aleph (1 Samuel) 20:5
  • “So Yehonathan said to him, “Tomorrow is the new moon month [H2320 <chodesh>], and you shall be missed because your seat shall be empty.” Shemu’ĕl Aleph (1 Samuel) 20:18
  • “And Dawiḏ hid in the field. And when the new moon month [H2320 <chodesh>] came, the sovereign sat down by the food to eat.” Shemu’ĕl Aleph (1 Samuel) 20:24
  • “And it came to be the next day, the second day of the new moon month [H2320 <chodesh>], that Dawiḏ’s place was empty. And Sha’ul said to Yehonathan his son, “Why has the son of Yishai not come to eat, either yesterday or today?” Shemu’ĕl Aleph (1 Samuel) 20:27 [According to the Torah, was it really the NEW MOON or not on that first day?]

Again: nowhere in Torah does Moses command the ‘new moon’ to be observed.

1030 BC King Dawid and Torah Commands

Kind Dawid also had to abide by Moses’ Laws for Calendar.

Dawid is called ‘man of YaHuWaH’ three times in the Tanakh.

Do you think he would have written the following verse this way if there is no Torah command?

  • “Blow a shophar in the New Moon [H2320 <chodesh>], in the covering for the day of our festival.” Tehillim (Psalms) 81:3 (No date; approx. 1000 BC)

Is there a Torah verse that gives clear instructions?

1030 BC King Dawid (A Man After YaHuWaH’s Heart)

Remember: Both Moses and King Dawid were men of YaHuWaH. King Dawid followed the ‘Laws of Moses’.

Therefore, he would have honored YaHuWaH’s ‘festal month’ according to the creation week, as recorded by Moses.

Because Numbers 10:10 says to ‘blow the trumpet in the new month’, [H2320 <chodesh>], King Dawid would have written Psalms 81:3 like this:

  • “And in the day of your gladness, and in your appointed times, and at the beginning of your new month [H2320 <chodesh>], you shall blow the trumpets over your ascending offerings and over your slaughterings of peace offerings. And they shall be a remembrance for you before your Elohim. I am יהוה your Elohim.” Bemiḏbar (Numbers) 10:10

Why? Because nowhere in Torah does Moses command the trumpet to be blown for the ‘new moon’.

By the way, we must examine the practices of King Solomon.

If the ‘new moon’ declares the beginning of the festal month would not Solomon [as the wisest man in the world] tell us about it?

King Solomon – the Wisest Man

The following information is from King Solomon, the wisest man on earth. He did not make provision during his 40 years as king for there ever to be a 13th month in any year – which is exactly what happens approx. every 3rd year when following the moon.

It is time to take a serious look at the evidence.

1015 BC Preparation for 1 Chronicles 23

King Dawid’s instructions for the Temple were to follow Moses’ Laws.

King Dawid [a man of YaHuWaH] gives instructions to King Solomon on:

  1. Building of the Temple
  2. Levitical instructions for the sacrifices and offerings [according to Moses, a man of YaHuWaH]

1 Chron 22:5 > Dawid begins to make preparations for the building of the Temple as Solomon is inexperienced.

1 Chron 22:12 > Solomon is commanded to observe the laws YaHuWaH gave to Moses, a man of YaHuWaH.

1 Chron 22:13 > Dawid repeats to observe the laws YaHuWaH gave to Moses.

1015 BC King Dawid’s Instructions to Solomon

King Dawid’s instructions to Solomon to Rule/Reign by Torah

King Dawid [a man of YaHuWaH] also instructed King Solomon to follow the statutes, commandments of judgments [according to Moses, a man of YaHuWaH].

And the days of Dawiḏ drew near to die, and he commanded Shelomoh his son, saying, “And guard the Charge of יהוה your Elohim: to walk in His ways, to guard His laws, His commands, His right-rulings, and His witnesses, as it is written in the Torah of Mosheh, so that you do wisely all that you do and wherever you turn; Melaḵim Aleph (1 Kings) 2:1, 3 [a reminder from King Dawid].

1015 BC King Solomon (Instructed by King Dawid)

Solomon is made king by Dawid. How would the instructions in 1 Chron 23:31 read using new months?

“and for all the ascending offerings to יהוה on the sabbaths and on the new moons months [H2320 <chodesh>] and on the appointed times, by number according to the right-ruling upon them, continually before יהוה;” Diḇre haYamim Aleph (1 Chronicles) 23:31

Nowhere in Torah does Moses give instructions for sacrifices on the ‘new moons’!

1015-1014 BC King Solomon’s Kingdom

See 1 Chron 27:1-15 Solomon names 12 captains for each year!

“And the children of Yisra’ĕl, according to their number, the heads of fathers’ houses, and the commanders of thousands and hundreds and their officers, served the sovereign in all matters of the divisions which came in and went out month by month throughout all the months of the year, each division having twenty-four thousand.

Did Moses make provision for the 13th month in any year?

1015 BC King Solomon’s 12 Captains of 1 Chron 27

1 “And the children of Yisra’ĕl, according to their number, the heads of fathers’ houses, and the commanders of thousands and hundreds and their officers, served the sovereign in all matters of the divisions which came in and went out month by month throughout all the months of the year, each division having twenty-four thousand.

2 Over the first division for the first month [H2320 <chodesh>] was Yashoḇ‛am

4 And over the division of the second month was Doḏai

5 The third commander of the army for the third month was Benayahu

7 The fourth for the fourth month was Asah’ĕl

8 The fifth for the fifth month was Shamhuth

9 The sixth for the sixth month was Ira

10 The seventh for the seventh month was Ḥĕlets

11 The eighth for the eighth month was Sibbeḵai

12 The ninth for the ninth month was Aḇi‛ezer

13 The tenth for the tenth month was Maharai

14 The eleventh for the eleventh month was Benayah

15 The twelfth for the twelfth month was Ḥeldai

1015 BC Preparation for 2 Chronicles 2

Solomon prepares to build the temple according to King Dawid’s instructions.

  • Everything is set in place according to the ordinances given through the Laws of Moses.
  • Both Moses and Dawid are called ‘a man of YaHuWaH’ several times in Scripture.

Kind Solomon carried out the plans of building the Temple.

Solomon did not honor any ‘new moon’. Hebrew does not use H3394.

1015 BC King Solomon (Follows Dawid’s Words)

King Solomon would have supported the ‘new month [H2320 <chodesh>]’ as given in Hebrew.

“see, I am building a House for the Name of יהוה my Elohim, to set it apart to Him, to burn before Him sweet incense, and for the continual showbread, and for the ascending offerings morning and evening, on the sabbaths, and on the new moons months [H2320 <chodesh>], and on the appointed times of יהוה our Elohim. This is for Yisra’ĕl forever.” Diḇre haYamim Bĕt (2 Chronicles) 2:4

1004 BC Preparation for 2 Chronicles 8 and <chodesh>

King Solomon followed all the Laws of Moses for the Temple

Again, Solomon carried out the plans for King Dawid exactly as instructed according to the Laws of Moses.

“And according to the ruling of Dawiḏ his father, he [Solomon] appointed the divisions of the priests for their service, the Lĕwites for their duties, to praise and serve before the priests, as the duty of each day required, and the gatekeepers by their divisions at each gate, for so was the command of Dawiḏ the man of Elohim.” Diḇre haYamim Bĕt (2 Chronicles) 8:14

“And they did not turn aside from the command of the sovereign to the priests and Lĕwites concerning any matter or concerning the treasuries.” Diḇre haYamim Bĕt (2 Chronicles) 8:15

1004 BC King Solomon (Regards Worship Statutes)

“even as the duty of every day required, offering according to the command of Mosheh, for the sabbaths, and for the new moons months [H2320 <chodesh>], and for the appointed times three times a year: the Festival of Matzot, and the Festival of Shaḇu’ot, and the Festival of Sukkot.” Diḇre haYamim Bĕt (2 Chronicles) 8:13

This event is 9 years after 1 Chronicles 23:31. Solomon is still following the Torah commands for offerings on the new month [H2320 <chodesh>].

895 BC Elisha (and the Shunammite Woman)

Elisha trained under Elijah; both were great men of YaHuWaH.

The Shunammite woman knew Elisha was a great prophet according to the testimony in:

“And she called to her husband, and said, “Please send me one of the young men and one of the donkeys, so that I hurry to the man of Elohim and return.” Melaḵim Bĕt (2 Kings) 4:22

“And he said, “Why are you going to him today? It is neither the new moon month [H2320 <chodesh>] nor the sabbath.” And she said, “It is well!” Melaḵim Bĕt (2 Kings) 4:23

Timeframe: 550 years after Moses.

Hebrew does not use H3394 for ‘moon’.

The following four verses need ‘qualifiers’ to show us the context is talking about YaHuWaH’s people following the pagan moon festivals!

Their (or ‘her’) ‘new months’ were actually a following after the pagan new moon months as a replacement for YaHuWaH’s Festal month.

9) Amos 8:5

10) Hosea 2:11

11) Isaiah 1:13

12) Isaiah 1:14

‘New Moon’ Apostasy Needs Qualifiers

787 BC Amos (Deals with Apostate Yisra’El)

  • Who was Amos?

A shepherd from Judah, and a servant of YaHuWaH.

  • YaHuWaH tells Amos that Yisra’El will long for the NEW MOONS and SABBATHS to be over to follow their pagan ways and immorality.
  • They were led away by false gods [Amos 2:4], most likely honored on the day of the pagan new moon.

787 BC Amos (Deals with Apostate Yisra’El)

660 years after Moses, Amos is faced with Yisra’El’s apostasy of the pagan ‘new moons’

This ‘new month’ [qualified in the verse by those following pagan ways], is definitely referring to the pagan ‘new moon’ month.

“saying, “When does the New Moon [H2320 <chodesh>] pass so that we sell grain, and the Sabbath so that we trade our wheat, to make the ĕphah small and the sheqel large, and to falsify the scales by deceit,” Amos 8:5

Yisra’El is admitting to their apostasy! They were celebrating the H3394 ‘new moon’ instead of the H2320 <chodesh> ‘new month’!

785 Hosea (Deals with Apostate Yisra’El 2 years later)

Hosea also has a warning about worship celebrations

  • YaHuWaH gives Hosea counsel for Yisra’El about 84 years before Hezekiah’s sundial miracle.
  • There is definitely a huge problem with apostasy in Yisra’El.
  • Will YaHuWaH’s people heed Hosea’s warning about her new moons – the ‘qualifier’ in this verse?

“And I [YaHuWaH] shall cause all her rejoicing, her festivals, her New Moons [H2320 <chodesh>], and her Sabbaths, even all her appointed times, to cease,” Hoshĕa (Hosea) 2:11

785 BC Hosea (Apostate Yisra’El ‘new moons’)

In Hosea 2:11 ‘her new moons’ is in full opposition with the Calendar Laws of Moses.

Is this a gross mistranslation?

“And I [YaHuWaH] shall cause all her rejoicing, her festivals, her New Moons [H2320 <chodesh>], and her Sabbaths, even all her appointed times, to cease,” Hoshĕa (Hosea) 2:11

760 BC Isaiah (Deals with Apostate Yisra’El 25 years later)

Isaiah’s record is very worthy of careful notice

Only 25 years after the writings of Hosea, Isaiah gives another warning about the apostasy of Yisra’El before they were taken into captivity by Assyria [about 721 BC]. However, they kept running after the pagan ways of worship, ignoring the covenant commands of YaHuWaH including His 30-day festal month.

As you will note next, verse 14 says very emphatically Your NEW MOONS [H2320 <chodesh>] – not H3394 <yareach>], and her sabbaths, and all her solemn feasts.

Isaiah 1:13-14 should have been translated as Your NEW MONTHS.

Even so, it does not matter if the verse said NEW MOONS or NEW MONTHS –  the point is – neither their MOON or MONTH was sacred and did not belong to YaHuWaH for it was all reckoned according to paganism and moon worship.

Stop bringing futile offerings, incense, it is an abomination to Me. New Moons [H2320 <chodesh>], Sabbaths, the calling of gatherings – I am unable to bear unrighteousness and assembly.” Yeshayahu (Isaiah) 1:13 (760 BC)

My being hates your New Moons [H2320 <chodesh>] and your appointed times, they are a trouble to Me, I am weary of bearing them.” Yeshayahu (Isaiah) 1:14

Isaiah 1:14 is quite an incredible verse. It should say NEW MONTHS, which are the ‘new months’ according to how the pagans calculated their pagan festivals.

Is it not interesting that the real problem of calculating the ‘pagan months’ is actually called ‘new moons’ in Isaiah 1:14 using H2320/chodesh?

YaHuWaH’s ‘appointed times’ were never fixed to the ‘new moons’.

Which came first?

  1. YaHuWaH’s Creation Festal Month?
  2. YaHuWaH’s Moon Month?

Rebuilding H2318 <chadash> the 30 Day Month H2320 <chodesh>

YaHuWaH’s New Festal Month still renews and rebuilds when the 30th day ends.

The Hebrew uses H2320 <chodesh> for month, NOT H3394 <yareach> for moon.

So did the translators give Amos, Hosea, and Isaiah the best translation or not?

726 BC King Hezekiah (Reformation and Restoration)

Coming into Covenant yields reformation and restoration

  • Remember: All kings and leaders were responsible to know Torah; teach it and have their own written copy. [Deut 17]

King Hezekiah would have observed the 30 day month like this:

  • Count 1 – 30, then start over – a repetitive occurrence!
  • In 726 BC, Hezekiah invited Yisra’El and Judah to celebrate the Passover in the 2nd (Why? Priests were not sanctified for the 1st month.)
  • The heathen altars in Jerusalem were destroyed.
  • A 2nd Passover was a grand reformation and restoration.
  • There was a massive campaign against all idol worship.
  • Hezekiah absolutely followed the Torah guidelines for celebrations of Sabbaths, Appointed Times, and New Months.

726 BC King Hezekiah (Reformation and Restoration)

“And the sovereign [King Hezekiah] portioned of his possessions for the ascending offerings, for the morning and evening ascending offerings, and the ascending offerings for the sabbaths and for the new moons months [H2320 <chodesh>] and for the appointed times, as it is written in the Torah of יהוה.” Diḇre haYamim Bĕt (2 Chronicles) 31:3

[H2320 <chodesh>] should be translated as new months.

YaHuWaH’s King would NOT have been following the pagan new moon!

Hezekiah absolutely followed Torah guidelines for celebrations of Sabbaths, Appointed Times, and YaHuWaH’s NEW months.

701 BC King Hezekiah’s Sundial Miracle

This is an extremely important event!

The Sundial Miracle: Historical Turning Point

No other Bible testimony is recorded 3 times

  1. “In those days Ḥizqiyahu [Hezekiah] was sick and near death, and he prayed to יהוה. And He spoke to him and appointed a sign for him.” Diḇre haYamim Bĕt (2 Chronicles) 32:24
  2. “And Yeshayahu said, “This is the sign for you from יהוה, that יהוה does the word which He has spoken: shall the shadow go forward ten degrees or go backward ten degrees?” And Ḥizqiyahu [Hezekiah] said, “It would be easy for the shadow to go down ten degrees; no, but let the shadow go backward ten degrees.” And Yeshayahu the prophet cried out to יהוה, and He brought the shadow ten degrees backward, by which it had gone down on the sundial of Aḥaz.” Melaḵim Bĕt (2 Kings) 20:9-11
  3. “And this is the sign to you from יהוה, that יהוה does this word which He has spoken: “See, I am bringing the shadow on the sundial, which has gone down with the sun on the sundial of Aḥaz, ten degrees backward.” Yeshayahu (Isaiah) 38:7-8

Have you heard this: ‘the MOON will not withdraw itself’?

What does Isaiah 60:20 mean by ‘the moon will not withdraw itself’?

Isaiah will be addressing a prophecy; not events connected to the apostasy of Judah.

Will there be a time that the moon as we see it will eventually never withdraw itself?

Or is there another concept? We will consider two options.

#1 The verse under consideration is Isaiah 66:23 [H2320 <chodesh>], which needs to be addressed along with Isaiah 60:20.

#2 Review of Isaiah 60:20 – A Prophetic Reference to H3391 <yerach> (or the lunation cycle and phases of the moon).

Isaiah 60:20 – Prophetic Reference of H3391 MOON

“No longer does your sun go down, nor your MOON withdraw itself [H3391; lunation cycle], for יהוה shall be your everlasting light, and the days of your mourning shall be ended.” Yeshayahu (Isaiah) 60:20

  • Context of verse: YaHuWaH’s people are in His Glory.
  • Could the phrase ‘the moon will no longer withdraw itself’ mean no longer changing the H3391 phases?
  • If there is no ‘withdrawing process’ there will be ‘no changing phases of the moon’.
  • This would make it very difficult to observe any worship statutes with YaHuWaH ‘from new moon to new moon’ (Isaiah 66:23). Therefore any understanding of a new moon in this context would be an impossibility!

What does Isaiah 60:20 have to do with Isaiah 66:23?

“No longer does your sun go down, nor your MOON [H3391 <yareach> withdraw itself [H622], for יהוה shall be your everlasting light, and the days of your mourning shall be ended.” Yeshayahu (Isaiah) 60:20

  • H622 ‘acaph; a primitive root; to gather for any purpose; hence, to receive, take away, i.e. remove (destroy, leave behind, put up, restore, etc.).

“And it shall be that from New Moon [H2320 <chodesh>] to New Moon [H2320 <chodesh>], and from Sabbath to Sabbath, all flesh shall come to worship before Me,” declares יהוה.” Yeshayahu (Isaiah) 66:23

How do Isaiah 60:20 and Isaiah 66:23 link to James 1:17?

“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no change, nor shadow of turning.” Ya‛aqoḇ (James) 1:17

  • Shadow G5157 trope; from an apparently primary trepo (to turn); a turn (‘trope’), i.e. revolution (figuratively, variation): KJV – turning.
  • Turning G644 aposkiasma; from a compound of G575 and a derivative of H4639; a shading off, i.e. obscuration [a darkening]: KJV – shadow.

Isaiah 66:23 Worship in the set-apart City

“And it shall be that from New Moon [H2320 <chodesh>] to New Moon [H2320 <chodesh>], and from Sabbath to Sabbath, all flesh shall come to worship before Me,” declares יהוה.” Yeshayahu (Isaiah) 66:23

Did not Isaiah 60:20 just inform us that the moon will no longer withdraw itself, indicating the strong possibility of completely eliminating the phases of the moon forever?

How can Isaiah first tell us the moon will no longer go through the phases of being renewed, and then six chapters later tell us we will be worshipping according to the ‘new moon’?

All the problems are eliminated when we realize we are not to be following any phase of the moon in the first place.

This also means the moon should not receive any sacred regard to appoint worship statutes.

Review: Jeremiah tells us about consequences for Judah ‘turning away from Torah commands’.

“and [Babylon] shall spread them before the sun and the moon and all the host of the heavens, which they have loved and which they have served and after which they have walked, which they have sought, and to which they have bowed themselves. They shall not be gathered nor buried, they shall be for dung on the face of the earth.” Yirmeyahu (Jeremiah) 8:2

Isaiah 1:4-5, 10-17 documents the traditions that insidiously infiltrated and contaminated the worship services of the Hebrew nation.

Paying allegiance to the Moon as the marker for feasts and festivals is the TOP ALARM OF THE LIST!

Many other prophets sounded the same message!

574 BC Ezekiel (A Levite, Prophet, and Priest of Torah)

Ezekiel had authority to teach the Torah instructions correctly

  • Ezekiel would have taught the strict laws of the Torah for the observance of the feasts, Sabbath(s), and the new month requirements.
  • His instructions in the following passages were for services to be conducted in the new temple at Jerusalem, after the return of the exiles from Babylon. However, this temple was never built.
  • The following passages are well after Hezekiah’s sundial miracle and about 38 years before the first exiles returned to Jerusalem.

574 BC Ezekiel (Will his prophecy follow the Torah?)

Ezekiel’s temple was never built to provide a witness for a new moon day

Would Ezekiel’s prophecy follow the words of the 1611 translation for the Hebrew term of <chodesh> H2320 for a NEW temple?

“And on the prince are the ascending offerings, and the grain offerings, and drink offerings, at the festival, the NEW MOONS [H2320 <chodesh>], the sabbaths Yehezqĕl (Ezekiel) 45:17

“‘Thus said the Master יהוה, “The gate of the inner courtyard facing east is shut the six days of work, but on the sabbath it is opened, and on the day of the NEW MOON [H2320 <chodesh>] it is opened.” Yehezqĕl (Ezekiel) 46:1

“And the people of the land shall also bow themselves at the entrance to this gate before יהוה, on the sabbaths and on the NEW MOONS [H2320 <chodesh>].” Yehezqĕl (Ezekiel) 46:3

“And on the day of the NEW MOON [H2320 <chodesh>]: a young bull, a perfect one, six lambs, and a ram, they should be perfect.” Yehezqĕl (Ezekiel) 46:6

Notice the translation does not give recognition to YaHuWaH’s ‘new festal month’.

Zerubbabel, Ezra, and Nehemiah – Great Reformers

Before we examine the last two controversial Scriptures, let’s do a review on some of the history around these men who led exiles back from Babylon.

538-516 BC Zerubbabel (1st Return of Babylonian Exiles)

Ezra tells us how the Law of Moses is still first priority almost 1000 years later

Chapters 1 – 6 record the history of Zerubbabel 80 years before Ezra arrives with the 2nd group of exiles.

“And Yĕshua son of Yotsaḏaq and his brothers the priests, and Zerubbaḇel son of She’alti’ĕl and his brothers, arose and built the slaughter-place of the Elohim of Yisra’ĕl, to offer ascending offerings on it, as it is written in the Torah of Mosheh, the man of Elohim.” Ezra 3:2

We already know that Moses did not command any offerings on the NEW MOON, but only on the NEW <chodesh> MONTH.

Now, notice the following Scripture:

“and afterward the continual ascending offering, and those for new moons month [H2320 <chodesh>] and for all the appointed times of יהוה that were set-apart, also for everyone who volunteered a voluntary offering to יהוה.” Ezra 3:5

Is it possible that Ezra would have written verse 5 with ‘new moons’?

NO! Ezra recorded exactly what Zerubbabel did ‘as it is written in the law of Moses’.

The Ezra 3:5 burnt offerings did NOT align with the pagan ‘new moon’!

If the first exiles were following the pagan new moons, would Ezra not have recorded the event as ‘your’ NEW MOONS or ‘her’ NEW MOONS?

Remember:  Hosea 2:11 [785 BC] and Isaiah 1:14 [760 BC] has this exact apostasy documented more than 300 years earlier.

485 BC Ezra (2nd Return of Babylonian Exiles)

Who was Ezra?

Ezra led the 2nd group of captives to Jerusalem about 80 years after Zerubbabel.

He was an Aaronic Priest, skilled scribe, and teacher of the Law of Moses! (See Ezra 7:1, 5, 6 and 10; 8:1-3, 9.)

Between the books of Ezra and Nehemiah, Ezra is called a priest 8 times and a [skilled] scribe 7 times. This confirms his well-qualified credentials.

YaHuWaH made sure Ezra’s credentials were the best for another reformation and restoration in Judah!

458 BC Ezra’s Commitment

Ezra: A Strong Leader

“For Ezra [a skilled scribe and Aaronic priest] had prepared his heart to seek the Torah of יהוה, and to do it, and to teach laws and right-rulings in Yisra’ĕl.” Ezra 7:10

Ezra taught the statutes and ordinances to Yisra’El along with Nehemiah and the Levites according to YaHuWaH’s Everlasting Covenant.

Ezra would never have written anything about ‘new moons’ nor taught the people such things!

Take careful note of the next set of Scriptures.

Torah Instructions with Ezra

“And when the seventh new moon came, the children of Yisra’ĕl were in their cities. And all the people gathered together as one man in the open space that was in front of the Water Gate. And they spoke to Ezra the scribe to bring the Book of the Torah of Mosheh, which יהוה had commanded Yisra’ĕl.” Neḥemyah (Nehemiah) 8:1

And Ezra the priest brought the Torah before the assembly of both men and women and all who could hear with understanding, on the first day of the seventh month.” Neḥemyah (Nehemiah) 8:2

And he [Ezra] read from it in the open space in front of the Water Gate from morning until midday, before the men and women and those who could understand. And the ears of all the people listened to the Book of the Torah.” Neḥemyah (Nehemiah) 8:3

“And Neḥemyah, who was the governor, and Ezra the priest, the scribe, and the Lĕwites who taught the people said to all the people, “This day is set-apart to יהוה your Elohim. Do not mourn or weep.” For all the people wept when they heard the words of the Torah.” Neḥemyah (Nehemiah) 8:9

Who earns your trust? Ezra or the Translators?

  • We must recognize that YaHuWaH was watching over the leaders of His people – especially through His prophets: Amos, Hosea, Hezekiah, Ezekiel, Isaiah, Ezra, and Nehemiah.
  • Ezra (and others) as priests, scribes, kings, and prophets were instructed and accountable to teach Torah truths.
  • Therefore, their actions and instructions must default back to teaching the Creator’s festal 30 day month according to accurate and proper definitions for H2320 <chodesh>.

Or do you think it is more likely the translators [influenced by Jewish tradition] interpreted H2320 <chodesh> incorrectly using the inaccurate words of ‘new moons’ rather than ‘new months’?

445 BC Nehemiah (3rd Return with Exiles)

Nehemiah led the 3rd group of exiles back to Jerusalem

  • Date of Event: This is about 12+ years after Ezra had returned with the 2nd set of exiles.
  • Under Nehemiah the people had confessed and repented for their sins with the pagan nations (Neh 9).

The people agree to:

  1. To separate themselves from the heathen people
  2. Support a Temple tax that would supply the needed funds for necessary supplies for:
    1. The Sabbath(s)
    2. Set feasts and the
    3. New month celebrations

434 BC Nehemiah (2nd Return to Jerusalem in 11-12 Years)

Nehemiah led out in another campaign for reformation and restoration!

  • Date of Event: On Nehemiah’s 2nd return to Jerusalem he found the people had fallen back into their evil ways – even conducting business on Sabbath.
  • Non-Jews were being permitted to conduct business inside Jerusalem on the Sabbath and to keep rooms in the Temple.
  • Greatly angered, he [as governor], purified the Temple.
  • Then Nehemiah instructed the Levitical priests to implement the observance of the Laws of Moses. Is there proof?

445-434 BC Nehemiah’s Faithfulness

Nehemiah’s efforts are the final witness in the Tanakh for observing the Covenant Worship Statutes.

“for the showbread, and for the continual grain offering, and for the continual ascending offering of the Sabbaths, of the New Moons months [H2320 <chodesh>], for the appointed times, and for the set-apart offerings, and for the sin offerings to make atonement for Yisra’ĕl, and all the work of the House of our Elohim.” Neḥemyah (Nehemiah) 10:33

  • [H2320 <chodesh>] must be translated as new months.
  • Reminder: Moses’ Laws do not say anything about observing the ‘new moon [H3394 <yareach>]’.
  • Nehemiah taught the people the same laws as Ezra did.
  • This was another reminder so the people would not repeat their backsliding patters. How long did it last?

For 1000 years, not one of these great men of YaHuWaH made one single mistake. ALL of them followed YaHuWaH’s Laws as given to Moses because there are no ‘new moon’ worship statutes in Torah! ALL of them beckoned the people to forsake pagan ways.

So what happened?

How did the ‘new moon’ words find their way into 20 non-Torah Scriptures through H2320 <chodesh>?

There are some things that could have happened with the translations to cause such a problem in only 7% of the Scriptures to establish the ‘new moon’ over the ‘new <chodesh> month’!

Two possibilities must be considered.

  1. The translators ignorantly made a mistake by following the Jewish traditions of their ‘new moon’.
  2. The translators deliberately erred causing allegiance and sacred regard to be given to the moon in place of YaHuWaH’s festal month start.

Let’s go back to our original question!

Who really took away the Keys to YaHuWaH’s Eternal Calendar?

  1. Was it only the translators?
  2. Hebrew Lexicon writers?
  3. Yisra’El?
  4. Galilee?
  5. Samaria?
  6. Judah?

To find out who is guilty and what happened to YaHuWaH’s Eternal Calendar Keys – lookout for Part 7!
