What is the Curse of Torah?

The SET-APART ONES  Shall Live by Faith

Gal 3:10 For those who rely on the works of the law are still under the curse, for as it is written, cursed is everyone who does not practice everything which is written in the book of the Torah.

Who is Paul talking to in this verse? Paul is talking to people who are relying on the Torah for their salvation.

The Torah was never intended for salvation! The Torah was intended to show us to how to live. How to walk in righteousness in a community setting as a true believer.

When did יהוה give the Torah to Mosheh? Did He give it before or after He delivered them from Egypt? After of course! He delivered them first and then showed them how to live according to His ways.

This is a picture of יהוה FIRST delivering them and then giving them instructions on how to maintain their deliverance.

The Torah never saved (delivered) anyone and it never will.

There were many that were in Galatia and also from the Pharisees that believed that the Torah will save you. That is just not true.

Gal 3:10 For those who rely on the works of the law are still under the curse, for as it is written, cursed is everyone who does not practice everything which is written in the book of the Torah.

Deu 27:26 Cursed is he who does not carry out to do all the Words of this Torah, to do them! And all the people shall say, Amen!

You can clearly see that Paul was quoting the Torah when he was speaking to the people. If Paul was stating that we were not to uphold the Torah then why was he writing in Romans that we were to uphold the Torah?

Rom 3:31  Do we then nullify the Torah through this faith? May it never be! On the contrary, we uphold the Torah.

We should be upholding (doing) יהוה’s instructions into righteousness as obedience, and not for salvation as the church teaches.

1Sa 15:22  And Samuel said: Has יהוה as great pleasure in burnt sacrifices and offerings, as when the voice of יהוה is obeyed? Behold, to obey, is better than sacrifice: and to hearken, is better than the fat of rams.

Faith is the root of our salvation. Obedience is the fruit of our salvation.

The Torah reveals to us what SIN is.

Rom 7:7  What shall we say then? Is the Torah sin? יהוה forbid. Nevertheless, I knew not sin, but by the Torah: For I had not known lust, except the Torah had said, thou shall not lust.

1Jn 3:4  Whosoever commits sin, transgresses also the Torah: for sin is the transgression of the Torah.

To get a better understanding (in context) of what Paul was referring to is to look at the Scriptures leading up to verse 10. Cherry picking this verse and plucking it out is very dangerous and gives a false narrative.

Gal 3:6  Even so Aḇraham “did believe Elohim, and it was reckoned unto him as righteousness.” 7  Know, then, that those who are of belief are sons of Aḇraham. 8  And the Scripture, having foreseen that Elohim would declare right the nations by belief, announced the Good News to Aḇraham beforehand, saying, “All the nations shall be blessed in you,” 9  so that those who are of belief are blessed with Aḇraham, the believer.

Jas 2:17  So also belief, if it does not have works, is in itself dead. 18  But someone might say, “You have belief, and I have works.” Show me your belief without your works, and I shall show you my belief by my works. 19  You believe that Elohim is one. You do well. The demons also believe – and shudder! 20  But do you wish to know, O foolish man, that the belief without the works is dead? 21  Was not Aḇraham our father declared right by works when he offered Yitsḥaq his son on the altar? 22  Do you see that the belief was working with his works, and by the works the belief was perfected? 23  And the Scripture was filled which says, “Aḇraham believed Elohim, and it was reckoned to him for righteousness.” And he was called, “Elohim’s friend.” 24  You see, then, that a man is declared right by works, and not by belief alone. 25  In the same way, was not Raḥaḇ the whore also declared right by works when she received the messengers and sent them out another way? 26  For as the body without the spirit is dead, so also the belief is dead without the works.

What are the works we are supposed to have to be in the Faith of Abraham?

Joh 8:39  They answered and said to Him, “Aḇraham is our father.” יהושע said to them, “If you were Aḇraham’s children, you would do the works of Aḇraham.

Gen 18:19  “For I have known him, so that he commands his children and his household after him, to guard the way of יהוה, to do righteousness and right-ruling, so that יהוה brings to Aḇraham what He has spoken to him.”

Gen 26:5  because Aḇraham obeyed My voice and guarded My Charge: My commands, My laws, and My Torot.”

Abraham’s faith was to Hear and Obey, SHEMA and SHOMER! Believe and Do! Listen and Perform!

Abraham’s works were pursuing the Torah of יהוה.

Were the Pharisees following the Torah? Many believe they were. But they were not.

Mar 7:9  And He said to them, “Well do you set aside the command of Elohim, in order to guard your tradition. 10  “For Mosheh said, ‘Respect your father and your mother,’ and, ‘He who curses father or mother, let him be put to death.’ 11  “But you say, ‘If a man says to his father or mother, “Whatever profit you might have received from me, is Qorban (that is, a gift),” ’ 12  you no longer let him do any matter at all for his father or his mother, 13  nullifying the Word of Elohim through your tradition which you have handed down. And many such traditions you do.”

Gal 3:11  And that no one is declared right by Torah before Elohim is clear, for “The righteous shall live by belief.”

The Torah does not save and Paul makes it very clear in verse 11! It does not justify anyone because that is not what it is for. The Torah is simply יהוה’s instructions for us to walk in.

Hab 2:4  Behold, he that lifts up himself, his mind is not upright in him: but the righteous shall live by his belief.

Before Messiah showed up all Torah believers walked by faith. They believed the Torah and did as the Torah instructed.

Many have this mindset that people who observe Torah are trying to do so to gain their salvation and that is just not the case. The way that salvation has been taught for so many years is so contradictory to what the Scriptures actually teach. On the contrary, when they think of Torah observance they think of a whole bunch of laws they need to keep to gain salvation. That is far from it.

The Torah is not based on faith but on obedience.

Gal 3:12  And the Torah is not of belief, but “The man who does them shall live by them.”

Lev 18:5  ‘And you shall guard My laws and My right-rulings, which a man does and lives by them. I am יהוה.

Living Torah is loving יהוה with all you heart, with all you mind, with all your soul and with all your strength.

Gal 3:13  Messiah redeemed us from the curse of the Torah, having become a curse for us [became cursed for us] – for it has been written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs upon a tree.”

What brought the curse of the Torah that He redeemed us from?

Disobedience to Torah brings the curse of Torah!

Deu 11:26  ‘See, I am setting before you today a blessing and a curse: 27  the blessing, when you obey the commands of יהוה your Elohim which I command you today; 28  and the curse, if you do not obey the commands of יהוה your Elohim, but turn aside from the way which I command you today, to go after other mighty ones which you have not known.

Isa 40:8  “Grass shall wither, the flower shall fade, but the Word of our Elohim stands forever.”

Those who are pursuing the Torah are not cursed. It is those who are not pursuing the Torah that are cursed.

If we pursue the Torah we will be blessed.

If we disobey the Torah we are cursed.

Gal 3:24  Therefore the Torah became our trainer unto Messiah, in order to be declared right by belief. 25  And after belief has come, we are no longer under a trainer. 26  For you are all sons of Elohim through belief in Messiah יהושע.

Gal 3:29  And if you are of Messiah, then you are seed of Aḇraham, and heirs according to promise.

Be a doer of the Word and not a hearer only.
