Who Is Your Pharaoh?

The Shemoth/Exodus account of the deliverance of the Hebrews out of Egypt is very challenging indeed. YaHuWaH had made great promises to Yisra’El, called Mosheh from the land of Midian and sent him back to Egypt to lead the people out of their slavery (we’re never too old for YaHuWaH!). Together with Aharon he set about fulfilling the call of YaHuWaH on his life – a call he had carried for more than 40 years.

But there was a Pharaoh in the way! Pharaoh was an ungodly and proud man in a position of authority that made him ruler over the Egyptians, as well as the Hebrews (who were reduced to slaves).

Pharaoh represented the “stumbling block” to the release of the children of YaHuWaH. When Mosheh and Aharon petitioned him to let the Hebrews go “to sacrifice to YaHuWaH,” he thought it was a big joke. He reckoned they had too much time on their hands and needed more work to do. He ordered they make the same tally of bricks per day but also to gather their own straw, which before was supplied. Pharaoh had no reason to grant Mosheh’s request. He had seen no evidence of a living Elohim amongst the Yisraelites. They were Hebrew believers, but powerless. They believed in the Living Elohim, but lived in slavery. In reality Pharaoh was their “El,” for he had the authority to control their daily life-styles and their future destinies. And he was not about to give up that power to a “Mosheh quoting a few sayings from YaHuWaH.”

What a picture we have here of life itself for the Torah Observant believer today. We have all the promises of YaHuWaH, have access to the power of YaHuWaH, have authority in the name of Yahusha to fulfill our destiny in the purposes of YaHuWaH yet, far too often, we live like the Yisraelites of old – in slavery to a Pharaoh.

The big questions have to be asked, “Do you have a Pharaoh in your life? Someone who stands between you and the will of YaHuWaH?”

If so, Who is your Pharaoh?

Have you identified the true enemy who stands against you to keep your life in slavery to a lawless authority or system?

It is a question of authority

As the story in Shemoth/Exodus unfolds it becomes apparent that the battle is one of “Who is in authority?” YaHuWaH (in Mosheh) or Pharaoh? The existing authority was Pharaoh, but YaHuWaH had declared, “Set My people free. Bring them out of Egypt to the place where Mosheh had encountered Me at the burning bush”

And Mosheh was shepherding the flock of Yithro his father-in-law, the priest of Miḏyan. And he led the flock to the back of the wilderness, and came to Ḥorĕḇ, the mountain of Elohim. And the Messenger of YaHuWaH appeared to him in a flame of fire from the midst of a bush. And he looked and saw the bush burning with fire, but the bush was not consumed. And Mosheh said, “Let me turn aside now, and see this great sight, why the bush does not burn.” And YaHuWaH saw that he turned aside to see, and Elohim called to him from the midst of the bush and said, “Mosheh! Mosheh!” And he said, “Here I am.” And He said, “Do not come near here. Take your sandals off your feet, for the place on which you are standing is set-apart ground.” And He said, “I am the Elohim of your father, the Elohim of Aḇraham, the Elohim of Yitsḥaq, and the Elohim of Yaʽaqoḇ.” And Mosheh hid his face, for he was afraid to look at Elohim. And YaHuWaH said, “I have indeed seen the oppression of My people who are in Mitsrayim, and have heard their cry because of their slave-drivers, for I know their sorrows. “And I have come down to deliver them from the hand of the Mitsrites, and to bring them up from that land to a good and spacious land, to a land flowing with milk and honey, to the place of the Kenaʽanites and the Ḥittites and the Amorites and the Perizzites and the Ḥiwwites and the Yeḇusites. “And now, see, the cry of the children of Yisra’El has come to Me, and I have also seen the oppression with which the Mitsrites oppress them. And now, come, I am sending you to Pharaoh, to bring My people, the children of Yisra’El, out of Mitsrayim.” And Mosheh said to Elohim, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh, and that I should bring the children of Yisra’El out of Mitsrayim?” And He said, “Because I am with you. And this is to you the sign that I have sent you: When you have brought the people out of Mitsrayim, you are to serve Elohim on this mountain.” Shemoth/Exodus 3:1-12

Mosheh had received divine revelation on YaHuWaH’s desire for Yisra’El. He knew YaHuWaH’s heart on the matter. He then put that knowledge into action by his obedience to YaHuWaH’s word of revelation. It was then he discovered there was a Pharaoh in the way! Someone with authority stood against him. Someone who wanted to keep YaHuWaH’s people slaves in the slime pits of Egypt!

The Message that Mosheh was given to Pharaoh is all about authority:

When the righteous increase, the people rejoice; But when a wrong one rules, the people sigh. Mishle/Proverbs 29:2

Life’s conditions improve or decline according to “who” is in authority in our lives! That happens in the world, in politics, the work place, in the home, and even our own life. We must ask ourselves:

Who is the authority in all circumstances in my life? YaHuWaH (in me) or Pharaoh?

For every Hebrew’s authority should be YaHuWaH. Is He? If He is we will be very content walking in the center of His will for our life – with opposition of course! But the opposition does not have to be the ruling authority of our life! And we don’t have to keep living in the slime pits of Egypt!

We have to demonstrate a greater authority

When Pharaoh stood against Mosheh and Aharon, he was merely defending his position of authority. He had not yet discovered that Mosheh’s YaHuWaH was more than “someone quoting some Scripture verses at him.” For the ruling authority to be overthrown there has to be a greater authority demonstrated. That’s why Mosheh had to perform the mighty miracles that outsmarted the best magicians Egypt could find. When they had reached their limitations the power and authority of YaHuWaH through Mosheh flowed on.

Who are we fooling?

Pharaoh had to see a demonstration of authority greater than anything he had ever seen or experienced before. And he did. Not just once, but again and again. There was such hardness in his proud heart that one demonstration was not enough. It is no different today. If Torah Observant believers cannot demonstrate the reality and power of the Living Elohim in our current secular, humanistic society, then who are we fooling? Ourselves!

What’s the hindrance?

Who or what is the Pharaoh in your life?

Who does Pharaoh represent?

Pharaoh can represent different things to different people. The obvious one is hasatan, who is opposed to any of us exchanging his authority over us to that of submitting ourselves under the mighty hand of YaHuWaH. He certainly wants to keep us in slavery and trudging through life under the dictates of “the world, the flesh and hasatan”.

Do not love the world nor that which is in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. Because all that is in the world – the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life – is not of the Father but is of the world. And the world passes away, and the lust of it, but the one doing the desire of Elohim remains forever. Yohanan Aleph/1 John 2:15-17

But Pharaoh can represent other things to Torah Observant believers. He can represent a relationship, a business partner. Pharaoh can actually be a religious doctrine or denomination that keeps you so “submissive and loyal” that you have no authority of your own will and rightly handling the Dabar of YaHuWaH . Pharaoh may be your own belief system, believing things that bind you more than release you into the purposes of YaHuWaH. This is a big one for many of us. We far too often are waiting for YaHuWaH to do something for us, when already He has given the command to go and do it! We struggle to be obedient to YaHuWaH (because of a Pharaoh)! Obedience must come first – it’s the Torah way.  SHEMA Yisra’El!

Pharaoh stops us from being ourselves, from being free!

Pharaoh is “anyone” or “anything” that prevents us from being free in the purposes of YaHuWaH in the here and now.  Think seriously about that statement. Your Pharaoh may not necessarily just be hasatan. We need to know that obeying Torah is all about our rising up to exercise the authority that YaHuWaH has given us in Yahusha our deliverance through the power of the Ruach haKodesh. The overcoming life (where we live in the authority of YaHuWaH) is not something that “just happens.” It is ours when we have seen the authority of YaHuWaH within us conquer the opposing Pharaohs in or against our lives. Every victory we win, every trial we come through, has something to do with the increasing authority of YaHuWaH working in and through our lives. That does not happen if Pharaoh is bowed to and we let his unbelieving hard-hardheartedness “dominate” our actions.  Our self-rule.

The name “Pharaoh” means “sun” or “his nakedness.” Pharaoh’s effects and dominance in the affairs of our life scorches and burns us in the wrong way. He strips us bare, leaving us destitute and naked, exposed and defeated. He reduces us to slaves in a slime pit! YaHuWaH’s will is that we are in Yahusha (the Dabar of YaHuWaH) and personally know the truth and power of walking in obedience to His Torah!

When we submit to the authority of YaHuWaH we discover that He is far above every other principality and authority on the earth.

“For this reason I too, having heard of your belief in the Master יהושע and your love for all the set-apart ones, do not cease giving thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers, that the Elohim of our Master יהושע Messiah, the Father of esteem, would give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of your understanding being enlightened, so that you know what is the expectation of His calling, and what are the riches of the esteem of His inheritance in the set-apart ones, and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who are believing, according to the working of His mighty strength, which He wrought in the Messiah when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenlies, far above all rule and authority and power and mastery, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come. And He put all under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all, to the assembly, which is His body, the completeness of Him who fills all in all.” Eph`siyim/Ephesians 1:15-23

“That is also why we, from the day we heard, have not ceased praying for you, and asking that you be filled with the knowledge of His desire in all wisdom and spiritual understanding, to walk worthily of the Master, pleasing all, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of Elohim, being empowered with all power, according to the might of His esteem, for all endurance and patience with joy, giving thanks to the Father who has made us fit to share in the inheritance of the set-apart ones in the light, who has delivered us from the authority of darkness and transferred us into the reign of the Son of His love, in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, who is the likeness of the invisible Elohim, the first-born of all creation. Because in Him were created all that are in the heavens and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or rulerships or principalities or authorities – all have been created through Him and for Him. And He is before all, and in Him all hold together. And He is the Head of the body, the assembly, who is the beginning, the first-born from the dead, that He might become the One who is first in all. Because in Him all the completeness was well pleased to dwell, and through Him to completely restore to favour all unto Himself, whether on earth or in the heavens, having made peace through the blood of His stake.” Qolasim/Colossians 1:9-20

In fact YaHuWaH’s authority is so great that He uses every other authority to work out His own purposes to His own praise and glory. Even the Pharaoh that Mosheh encountered, YaHuWaH used to show forth His power:

“For the Scripture says to Pharaoh, “For this same purpose I have raised you up, to show My power in you, and that My Name be declared in all the earth.” Romiyim/Romans 9:17

How humiliating for Pharaoh! The very thing he tried the hardest to resist, YaHuWaH took and used it to demonstrate how superior He is to puny man’s positional authority. I mean, Who ever outsmarted YaHuWaH?

Us Hebrews need to re-discover the glorious truth that YaHuWaH is totally committed to those who are in His will. He turns everything to good when we stand according to His purposes. He removes the obstacles and causes the Pharaohs to know that YaHuWaH’s people carry an authority that is “out of this world.”

As Mosheh continued to declare the purposes of YaHuWaH and not be intimidated by Pharaoh, he saw the break through come. As he continued to release the miraculous (at YaHuWaH’s command) he saw the authority of Pharaoh being broken down. The word of YaHuWaH in Mosheh’s mouth kept undermining Pharaoh’s authority until the time came when Yisra’El marched out of their slime pits, out of their slavery, out of Egyptian bondage, through the miracle of the Red Sea, to the place where YaHuWaH told Mosheh to bring them – to Himself! That’s authority! YaHuWaH’s authority! That’s seeing the promises of YaHuWaH worked through into practical reality! That’s when YaHuWaH is glorified – when people see the evidence of our believing that YaHuWaH is in the midst of His people!

This is a day when the authority of Pharaoh is being brought down. He has ruled for too long. He has kept us down for too long. He has robbed us of our inheritance and it’s time for change. Whoever your Pharaoh is, don’t let him bluff you any longer into believing you have no rights to rise up, that you cannot be any different to what has always been. The Dabar of YaHuWaH is our true authority. When we have His word applied to our hearts as true believers, and the sign of the Covenant, then we can claim the Covenant promises and the authority that we have in YaHuWaH.

Who is your Pharaoh?

Whoever he is, his time is limited, his “number” is up!

Is your Pharaoh immersed into Messiah?

Until we are fully immersed into Messiah (the Dabar of YaHuWaH) being totally cleansed and bringing our self-rule nature under subjection into YaHuWaH’s instructions into righteousness  we will never enter into the land that He promised.

“You are already clean because of the Word which I have spoken to you.” … Stay IN Me…….. born of Water/Mayim …. and Spirit/Ruach.  John/Yohanan 15:3

Immersion- going under the ‘water’… or could be better stated as: submission – to come under His Supreme Authority; as Ruler over ‘our body’

“Let my Instruction fall as rain, My speech distilled – as dew, As fine rain on the tender plants, And as showers on the grass. “For I proclaim the Name of YaHuWaH, Ascribe Greatness to our Elohim. (Deut. 32:2-3) << His Word/s << the ‘clean’ waters that we ‘come under’.. immersed in… His Word/s that ‘teach’ us ‘clean from unclean’…

“And I shall take you from among the gentiles, and I shall gather you out of all lands, and I shall bring you into your own land. “And I shall sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean <<(distilled as dew) – from all your filthiness and from all your idols I cleanse you. And I shall give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you. And I shall take the heart of stone out of your flesh, and I shall give you a heart of flesh, and put My Spirit within you. And I shall cause you to walk in My Statutes and guard My right-rulings and shall DO them.” Ezekiel/Yehezqel 36:24-27

… sprinkled by the water with the ashes of ‘the red heifer’/PeRaH-ADaMaH… entering into ‘the gate’… at the altar of sacrifice; pouring out – our corrupted mind, and heart – utterly!!! coming ‘under’ – submissive obedience… to be purged and purified in ‘the fire’ – washed in the laver, <<(the outer court; ‘trampled by the gentiles’ Rev. 11:1-2)>> renewed, like in a gestation.. the water mingled with blood – and entering in through The Door – born into The Household…  a newborn, or nursling… emotional attachment to ‘The Source’…  nurtured, trained and taught ‘In The House’…. eating from The Table… ‘learning’ to ‘speak’ Truth (no guile was found in their mouths)….

… when our heart ‘burns’ with a passionate desire to ‘obey’ and our body goes into actions of obedience… seeking out INSTRUCTION and then doing according to the understanding we are given…  we KNOW and can testify that HE HAS COME… our corrupted heart and mind cannot ‘desire’ submissive obedience… it is The Ruach/Spirit of Mashiach Yahusha ‘IN’ us… doing the Work of gathering us… leading us.. teaching us… the desire to submit is NOT ‘of ourselves’… we have nothing to boast in, EXCEPT HIM…
